Business and Computing
Staff
The Business Education and Computing department has 3 full time members of staff. The Head of Department is Mrs Sandilands. Mrs Winwood and Ms Parr make up the rest of the team.
Teaching rooms are well equipped. Each room has an interactive smart board and 20 desktop computers capable of running our software requirements. We offer a wide array of courses at National level and through the Broad General Education phase.
BGE
In S1 pupils have 2 Digital Literacy and ICT lessons per week, covering experiences and outcomes in Digital Literacy, Business Education and Computing.
In S2 pupils have 1 Business Administration lesson per week, covering experiences and outcomes in Business Management and Administration and IT. They also have 1 Computing Science lesson per week covering experiences and outcomes in Computing Science.
In S3, pupils can choose to continue their studies with us by studying: Administration and IT, Business Management and Computing Science. The department also offers a wider-achievement course in Cyber-Security.
SENIOR PHASE
In S4, pupils can choose to continue their studies in Administration and IT, Business Management or Computing Science. We also offer a wider-achievement course in Employability.
In S5 & S6, pupils can choose to continue their studies of the courses offered at National 5 and Higher level.
Continuous formative and summative assessments are used to track and monitor pupil progress throughout all years.

Homework/Study Support
Regular homework is set on Microsoft Teams.
Focussed National 4/5 and Higher Administration and IT study support sessions are run on a Thursday evening in the department from 3.30-4.30 pm in FF054.
Focussed Higher Business Management study support sessions are run on a Tuesday lunchtime in FF042 from 1.10-1.55 pm and on a Thursday evening from 3.30-4.340 pm.
Focussed National 4/5 Business Management study support sessions are run on a Tuesday lunchtime in FF054 from 1.10-1.55 pm.
Pupils studying any course within our department are welcome to come along to any of the sessions listed above to access IT to complete subject revision, homework, etc.
Extra Curricular
We actively encourage participation in a range of business and computing national competitions.
Ms Parr runs Code Club every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime in FF049 - all pupils are welcome to attend. Mrs Sandilands runs the My World of Work/SCQF Ambassadors Club on a Thursday lunchtime in FF054 - all pupils are welcome to attend.
Various study clubs runs in the department - your child should check with their Class Teacher re specific dates and times.
YPI Scotland
During their S2 year pupils will complete the YPI Programme in partnership with the RE, English and Business Education and Computing Departments. YPI is an active citizenship programme, that empowers young people to make a difference in their communities while developing a range of skills.
